Hello My Friend

Hello My Friend!

Hello My Friend Lyrics
Hello My Friend
It’s been a while
I’ve been gone for so long
I’m happy to be back
Ooooh through the years
Through the depths of time
Would you like to have some fun?
Like we did way back
I wanna tell you
About it
Everything is better with you
And I wanna tell you
That I care
And it makes no difference what they say
We’ll spend the magic days
Under the golden sun
All our dreams will come true
And we’ll beat the odds
All love will remain
Fly on fly on
Until we meet again
Until the end of time
I wanna tell you
About it
Everything is better with you
And I wanna tell you
That I care
And it makes no difference what they say

I wanna take a moment to talk about the lyrics of my new release

First verse

To understand the story of Hello my friend  you have to put yourself into the shoes of the main character.

You are living life on an ordinary day. All the sudden a friend you haven’t heard from in a long time reaches out to you. You answer and you both agree to hangout and catch up.

While yall are hanging, you start to feel a deep connection to the moment and feel a deep bliss  and excitement you haven’t felt since you were younger. It’s like you both picked up where you left off. You feel life for what it really is. The simplicity of it. Without trying to rush from point a to point b non stop like you’ve been for years. You realize your perception and life experience had been tainted by your desire to get somewhere else in life.

And in this moment you start to wonder if what you’ve been trying to achieve in life has been bringing you peace. You start to question reality. While in this moment you feel such peace and fullness you haven’t felt in a long time.

The Chorus

The chorus leads us into your appreciation for the moment you are spending with your bud you haven’t seen in years and that you really care about them even though it’s been so long, you’ve often wondered about them. No matter what they say about em, you have a deep sincere love for them.

The story takes a turn now on the 2nd verse

Now your realize your friend is a ghost. You realize the friend you were talking to is no longer alive. In fact You woke up in your own dream. You are in a dream but it feels exactly like real life. You are conscious of being in the dream and you are coming back to reality. You are in a heightened emotional state now and say to your friend-

We’ll spend the magic days under the golden sun

All our dreams will come true

And we’ll beat the odds

All love will remain

Fly on fly on

Until we meet again, until the end of time…

(Hello My Friend Blog 2, Songwriting process and Recording)

What a fun journey this tune has been, I wanna tell ya about how it came together! I wrote Hello My Friend back in March right before I left to go on tour. Around that time I had a nudge that I wanted to go into more of a heavy musical direction.

As I started working on it… I instantly felt like it was the best song I could be working on. Some songs take hours, days, or even years to write. This one came together in a relatively short amount of time. And I consider it one of my favs I ever wrote.

I really wanted to record it as soon as I came up with it but knew I really wanted to do it at a nice studio! Like a state of the art recording studio With lots of vintage gear. So I started looking around and found Retro City Studios in Philly. Saved up some money and by July I had enough to book a whole day. I used some amazing recording gear for this song! Vintage Ludwig drum kit, recorded bass through a vintage ampeg. The rhythm guitar you hear on it is two amps I ran together – HiWatt and a Sunn amp! I laid down the Drums, Bass, Rhythm Guitar, and Vocals at the studio and then I came home and recorded the guitar solos and vocal overdubs at my home studio. The way I recorded the guitar amp was pretty cool- I put it in a closet in a bedroom upstairs and then stretched the cables all the way down into the basement studio to the console. I Literally found the best tone by doing that!

After all of the recording was done I needed to mix and master it. I wanted to have a really nice mix on it so I  bought some nice studio monitors and went to work. After about a week of mixing it, learning, and countless car tests/ Bluetooth speaker tests. I finally got it! I hope you enjoy the mix! I just started sound engineering within the past year and a half and I consider myself a student at it, as I’m learning as I go! I’m proud of the final result, I only had less than a month to produce it.

This whole process was like a dream and I’m incredibly grateful to do what I love for a living. I hope I can encourage any musician reading this to embrace the journey and go hard with it! There’s no wrong answers when it comes to making music!
